Gensler wanted to push the envelope of traditional office design – quite literally – with their new studio in downtown San Diego. With MEP engineers, Glumac, the design team used to research and testing to inform design goals and strategies. An integrated design process focused on natural ventilation, chilled sails, and both active/passive chilled beams, daylight and views in the old hermetically sealed 1970s high-rise office building. The team learned how to overcome budget constraints, construction of innovative systems and commissioning obstacles. This session will provide a brief overview of and the design process, technical systems, and systems integration, telling a story of how the new Gensler SD office came to be.
